What is the CRRSSA HEERF II Grant?

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) for Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds II (HEERF II) was passed on December 27, 2020 and allocated approximately $22.7 billion to distribute to institutions of higher education to provide emergency funding to students whose lives have been affected by the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic.

Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine will receive a total of $167,743, which is provided directly to students for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

How much will I receive?

The College is committed to helping all eligible students that are affected by the coronavirus pandemic to the greatest extent possible to the largest population possible with the HEERF II funds available. Each student that applies is eligible for $500 dollars. You should request funds based on your financial need for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care, for the time of the emergency.

How will I receive this money?

Emergency grants will be processed through the College Bursar. Please contact Varsi Martin at vmartin@bcomnm.org for direct deposit questions.

If you have direct deposit set up, an ACH is sent directly to your bank account on file. Please notify the Bursar immediately if you have recently changed bank accounts. If you do not have direct deposit setup with the College, you will be notified that a check is available for pickup, and after 14 days (approximately two weeks), if not picked up, it will be mailed to the recipient.

Do I need to repay this Grant?

No, you will not need to repay any money received through this fund.

Does this money affect my Financial Aid?

No. This is an emergency grant to help you manage unexpected expenses related to the coronavirus, and it will not have any impact on other financial aid you may be eligible to receive.

What if I still owe a balance?

Any HEERF II funding awarded to you will be paid to you directly, and it will not cover any outstanding balances owed to Burrell College. Any outstanding balance owed to Burrell College will remain the responsibility of the student.
