Congratulations, Class of 2020! We are excited and honored to have you, your families and friends join us on this momentous occasion. This event marks the first annual Commencement Ceremony for medical students at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. We exist to be a transformative force for education and health care throughout the Southwest. After graduating from BCOM, you will play a significant role in improving the health of the region, the state and the nation. Together, we are the future of medicine! What is a commencement and hooding ceremony?
The hooding ceremony is a special moment for those earning a master’s or doctoral degree. In this case, each individual in the Class of 2020 will be called by name to the stage to draped with an academic hood; the process implies initiation into the field of osteopathic medicine. Osteopathic medical students will then be congratulated by senior faculty.
Where will the commencement ceremony take place?
The Pan American Center, located at 1810 E. University Ave., Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Do I need a ticket to attend?
No, tickets are not required. Students are encouraged to invite as many family members and friends as they’d like.
Where can I park?
Free parking is available in surface lots adjacent to the Pan American Center. Please see the parking guide available here.
Can I bring an infant or small child?
Yes. Guests of all ages are encouraged to attend.
What is the recommended attire?
The recommended attire is business casual.
Will there be food and drinks at the ceremony?
Yes, the Commencement Ceremony will be immediately followed by a reception with light refreshments.
