Class of 2020 Honor Code
As a member of the 2020 class at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, I knowingly agree to the following terms:
I. Honesty and Integrity
a. Will demonstrate truthfulness in academic and clinical activities, including examination, evaluations and any other representation of my work, and in interactions with patients, peers, and faculty.
b. Will not participate in any activity that compromises academic integrity, including, but not limited to:
i. Participating in fabrication of data, including any curricular activities, research, or academic exercises.
ii. Knowingly providing, receiving, or using information during assignments and examinations. This includes the disclosure of Standardized Patient Encounters and/or Competency Exams, including any information that would provide students with an unmerited academic advantage.
c. Will abide by the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine policy on plagiarism. Refer to Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine Policy Manual.
II. Respect for Others
a. Will always treat administration, faculty, staff, peers, patients, and any members of the community that we may encounter with dignity, respect, and non-discrimination.

ii. Will express views in a calm, respectful and mature manner when in disagreement with another individual, understanding that a mutual agreement may not be reached. b. Will abide by Title IX Guidelines on sexual misconduct.
c. Will refrain from defaming administration, faculty, staff, peers, patients, and any members of the community in a way that may tarnish their image or reputation.
i. This includes, but is not limited to protecting the confidentiality of Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine administration, faculty, staff, peers, patients, and any members of the community. Knowingly abiding by the most current HIPAA standards.
d. Will maintain a professional and respectful manner on social networking and social media websites. The postings within social networking sites are subject to the same standards of professionalism as any other personal or professional interaction, and will be treated as if made in a public forum.
e. Will not record others without knowledge and/or consent:
i. Using electronic means to make a video, audio, or photographic record of any person while representing ourselves as a Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine student. This includes, in the classroom, during Standardized Patient Encounters, on rotations, or other clinical setting.
III. Reliability and Responsibility
a. Will understand that in public settings, including any online presence, students (both current and past) represent Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, and will uphold a professional demeanor.
b. Will avoid the use of alcohol and/or illicit drugs while performing or attending any academic or clinical responsibilities. This includes the use of illicit drugs or misuse of prescription drugs in order to maintain the highest level of competency and skill. c. Will abide by all state and federal laws as well as the policies of Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and any facilities visited during rotations and clinical experiences.
IV. Commitment to Professionalism
a. Will maintain a professional standard, knowing that I represent not only myself, but also the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine community, faculty, staff, and other students.
V. AOA Code of Ethics
a. Will respect patient’s confidentiality, rights, and dignity. This includes understanding HIPAA and abiding by the AOA Code of Ethics (https://bcomnm.org/policy-b5001/)
i. Understanding that I am a student with limited experience, knowledge and skill, and will ask for assistance whenever necessary.
b. Will resolve any disputes among students and/or faculty by abiding by the “Chain of Command” as stated in the student handbook.
VI. In addition to the above sections, as a student of Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, I will abide by all policies stated in the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Handbook and Course Catalog.
