President Hummer Recieves Leadership New Mexico Award

John L. Hummer, co-founder, executive board director, and president of the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine has been named Leadership New Mexico’s 2017 Distinguished Alumnus.

Leadership New Mexico was founded in 1995 to identify current and emerging leaders throughout New Mexico, enhance their leadership skills, and deepen their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our state. Leadership New Mexico is dedicated to the development of informed leaders that understand issues, define problems, develop solutions and achieve positions of higher responsibility in New Mexico. Hummer is a member of the core class of 2004.

Hummer was the developer and founding chief executive officer of MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces. He has 28 years of executive leadership experience in the healthcare industry in locations throughout the United States.

Hummer and his wife, Amy, also own the largest, full-service real estate company in Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico, Steinborn & Associates Real Estate. He is board director for First American Bank headquartered in Artesia, the Southwest Osteopathic Foundation for Educational Research, and the Borderplex Alliance.

He served as a past chairman of the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance, past president of the Rio Grande Rotary Club, and past president of the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership. He served as chairman of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce and is a two-time recipient of their Citizen of the Year award. Hummer served six years as commissioner for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. He was co-chairman for People for Aerospace, which led the successful campaign for Spaceport America.

Hummer’s philanthropic causes include Mesilla Valley Hospice, March of Dimes, and Rotary International.
