BCOM Health Sciences Library Hosting Free Training

The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) Health Sciences Library will host a free training opportunity in conjunction with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine – South Central Region. Three separate courses will be offered on February 17, 2017 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the BCOM Campus Building, 3501 Arrowhead Drive.

The training content will be of interest to library workers, and is also open to anyone who would like to improve their knowledge and skills on accessing authoritative health and medical information through the National Library of Medicine databases.

Participants can attend as many of the courses as they would like. Lunch will be provided and participants are asked to bring a laptop computer. In accordance with MLA guidelines, these courses/hours may apply toward the Consumer Health Information Specialization or AHIP Credential. Pre-registration deadline is February 10.

This training opportunity was organized by BCOM Library Director & Professor of Medical Informatics Erin Palazzolo, MLIS, and Associate Library Director & Associate Professor of Medical Informatics, Norice Lee, MLIS. Palazzolo earned her Masters of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked and taught in academic, hospital, and medical school libraries for almost 20 years. Lee also earned her Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin.  For over 20 years, she has held leadership positions in a variety of library types in the New Mexico/Texas border region and also serves as the chair of the New Mexico State Library Commission.

The mission of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) is to advance the progress of medicine and improve the public health by providing all U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information and improving the public’s access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health. The program is coordinated by the National Library of Medicine and carried out through a nationwide network of health science libraries and information centers.
