  • Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) is subject to the Federal law known as The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99). FERPA requires that we ensure the confidentiality and privacy of student information. For this reason, it is important that conversations regarding interactions that you have had with a student while you are a standardized patient are necessary, with the appropriate person (i.e. a standardized patient educator), and are held in a confidential place and manner. Observation of other standardized patient and student performance and training will be treated with complete respect and kept in confidence.

I understand the significance of confidentiality with respect to student information and agree to abide by FERPA and any other federal or state laws regarding confidentiality. I agree to report any violations of confidentiality that I become aware of to BCOM officials immediately. I further understand my failure to abide by FERPA regulations may result in my termination as a BCOM standardized patient.
